Internal Compliance Committee

The UGC regulations 2015 state that Indian colleges and universities need to have an Internal Complaints Committee that will conduct inquiries into sexual harassment complaints from students, faculty and non-teaching staff.  Government Arts and Science College for Women, Orathanadu ensures the provision of safe academic and working environment to its students and staff members.  An Internal Complaints Committee has been set up in the college during the year 2018-19 as per the guidelines of Supreme Court, UGC, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013.

Objectives

The objectives of the Internal Complaint Committee to Prevent Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace are as follows:

  • To develop a policy against sexual harassment of women at the Institute.
  • To evolve a permanent mechanism for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment cases and other acts of gender-based violence at the Institute.
  • To ensure the implementation of the policy in letter and spirit through proper reporting of the complaints and their follow-up procedures.
  • To uphold the commitment of the Institute to provide an environment free of gender-based discrimination.
  • To create a secure physical and social environment to deter any act of sexual harassment.
  • To promote a social and psychological environment to raise awareness on sexual harassment in its various forms.

Activities

  • The fresh UG and PG students will be given orientation on sexual harassment and our actions towards the maintenance of harassment free environment for the students and the redressal mechanisms available. 
  • The names of ICC members will be mentioned in the College Calendar along with contact numbers. 
  • The Women Empowerment Cell also functions along with ICC for sensitization of the students on gender issues including patriarchal strategies of power over women.
